Well+Good is a leading digital wellness publication, known for identifying trends in healthy living and clarifying what it means to live a well-rounded life. While working at Barrel, I had the opportunity to work on significant projects, including designing the Wellness Trends Hub, creating their Premium Article Template, and being part of their 2024 website redesign.
Every year, Well+Good launches Wellness Trends, an annual digital hub highlighting trends across beauty, fitness, and more, featuring insights from top wellness experts.
The 2023 Trends Hub was inspired by fluidity, reflecting the unique nature of each person’s wellness journey. The concept of “peeking through” was used to provide glimpses into new trends. Collaborating closely with our developer, Grady, we brought these inspirations to life through CSS animations that activate when users hover over the category cards.
Working with Well+Good gave me insights into how editorial content must be adapted for AMP and Apple News. As part of the project, we’ve designed separate yet cohesive designs for these frameworks, ensuring a wider audience could access the content.
The 2024 Trends Hub drew inspiration from technological advancements and how various industries have empowered healthy living. This launch coincided with Well+Good’s rebrand, resulting in a bolder look than before.
Well+Good produces a wealth of high-quality content, prompting the team to create premium reading experiences that visually elevate specific articles. We began by identifying the types of content the editorial team wanted to highlight. This included an editorial-style header, various ways to showcase pull quotes, dynamic imagery blocks, native ads, commerce modules, and more.
We also considered the various styling capabilities to ensure each reading experience was uniquely tailored. This template was designed with all the editors’ needs in mind, leading us to create variations of the many modules we designed.
Redesigning a premier digital publication site required a collaborative effort. Well+Good has evolved its mission to be more inclusive and diverse, emphasizing wellness education. This shift has broadened their audience to include Gen Z readers and gender inclusivity.
We began by focusing on the website’s typography. After exploring numerous fonts, we chose Archivo, a beautiful, modern sans-serif typeface that aligns with Well+Good’s new direction.
I’ve supported Christine Carforo and Nadia Hussain in designing Well+Good’s homepage. This design concept incorporates digital editorial through modern typography and unique layouts yet brings a touch of print physicality through collages and paper texture. The homepage features engaging hover effects on desktop, enhancing user interaction.
Throughout the redesign, I played a key role in evolving essential elements and pages of the site, such as the navigation menu, rich tag pages, the article page, premium article templates, and more.
